Were You Sold an Unsafe Car?

It is not illegal for a dealership to sell you a damaged vehicle. However, a dealer is not supposed to put you into a car that is unsafe. There are many possible ways that a car may be damaged to make it unsafe, including damage to the brakes, frame of the vehicle, or exhaust system. A dealer is prohibited from selling a vehicle that does not meet the equipment requirements in Division 12 of the Vehicle Code. As the National Association of Attorneys General notes, “Vehicle history information is a material fact and, therefore, must be disclosed under state unfair and deceptive acts and practices laws.” If you’ve had safety problems with a car you recently purchased, call Serena D. Aisenman at 858-348-1005.
