Mercedes-Benz sponsors a certified pre-owned (“CPO”) vehicle program that allows dealerships to sell its vehicles as certified. A certified car must undergo extensive inspection to ensure that it is safe and reliable. Many consumers choose CPO vehicles when they want a used car they can trust. Unfortunately, CPO vehicles don’t always live up to their reputation. That was the case when one of our clients purchased a CPO Mercedes-Benz from Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco. Allegedly, the certified vehicle she purchased had been in an accident and suffered frame damage, something that should have made the car ineligible for certification. Now she is stuck with a damaged car that she doesn’t trust. Who knows what other damage is hidden in that vehicle that could threaten her safety?
